Meet the Children at Nazareth Home

profiles are coming soon

Background:

Twenty years ago the resident mother, Josephine Namakula and her brother Father Joseph Musanya of the local Catholic Diocese donated land with its old buildings, a place where kids without parents could have security and a home. This home is for children who lost their parents due HIV/AIDS and others whose parents were killed in war especially from the northern Uganda.

The home accepts both girls and boys from 0-17 years of age without any discrimination in race, religion, etc. We have a few old structures. One of the buildings is very old with walls cracked and unpainted. This is currently the boys dormitory. The children have beds but some of the beds are old and broken while their mattresses are made of stuffed grass which are not hygienic.

The other newer building houses the girls a few of whom have lived there for over 10 years.  The toilet is a simple long drop design without hand washing facility.

The kitchen is very primitive with no cooker and only a single water tap in the courtyard for cleaning. There are few sourcepans or cutlery or tableware nor chairs and kitchen table for the kids to sit around when reading books and eating meals.

Efforts are being made to renovate these structures to ensure good security and improved hygiene for the children. New structures are also being set up to make home comfortable for the kids.

In our efforts towards self-reliance and to meet the above demands, the center is trying to start some income generating activities to cope with the ever-increasing cost of living, which makes it very difficult to balance our recurrent, and development budgets of caring for these HIV/AIDS orphaned children. The activities include projects such the Cattle project, Pig project, Art and Craft, and for a complete listing visit our  Projects page.
