Silver                                                                        Return to Stories of Hope

Silver is 17 years old and in Senior 3 (grade ten). After his father died when he was young, he went to live with his grandfather in Masaka. While in Masaka, he studied at a primary school from Primary 1 to Primary 7, followed by Senior 1 and Senior 2.  After the completion of S2 (grade 9), Silver was unable to pay for school fees, which set him back for two years. Next, he attended another secondary school in Mbiriizi for a short period of time before switching to Hope Integrated Academy for Senior 3, where he is currently enrolled. Silver really enjoys school and dreams of becoming a lawyer to fight for the future of Uganda.

Silver attends URFs After School Program as well, and always takes an active role during debate every Thursday. He has stated that: "Hope Academy has allowed me to gain important computer skills and an opportunity to receive sponsorship to continue my education".  Sponsorship is critical for Silver as he struggles to provide all requirements necessary to finish his education. His suggestions for URF are to improve the standards of the school’s building because the kids are currently studying in rooms with dirt floors.

Currently, Silver rents a one-room house in Kyetume by himself and also works at a local movie theater in town to earn some income to afford basic supplies. His hope for the people of Uganda persists because he sees the situation improving every day.
