Administrative & Fund Raising Internship

Uganda Rural Fund USA, Inc. (URF-USA), an international grass-roots non-profit organization aimed at creating educational and sustainable development opportunities for AIDS orphans, disadvantaged youth and women in Uganda’s rural communities, is seeking an organized and team-oriented intern for a non-paid internship position.  We are seeking an individual, who enjoys multi-tasking, a lively work environment and, above all, we seek an individual who will be passionate about our mission and education development in Africa.

Responsibilities:

• Engage in general administrative office work
• Assist with e-newsletter editing and distribution
• Support major donor development and solicitation
• Research and solicit partnerships with other organizations
• Assist with special fund raising events
• Assist grant writers in collecting desired information
• Assist with proofreading websites and program related documents
• Help administer the charity’s various fundraising programs
• May involve corresponding with Ugandan team to obtain desired information
• Other related duties as needed

Experience and Skills:

• Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher
• Strong knowledge of the nonprofit sector or willingness to learn through research
• Excellent organization and communication (both verbal and oral) skills
• Maintain a high level of accuracy (detail oriented)
• Work cooperatively in a team environment both inside and outside the organization
• Manage time and meet tight deadlines
• Work independently with minimal supervision
• Occasional evening and weekend work may be required

Eligibility: Undergraduate or graduate students in good academic standing.

Location: URF Virginia Offices—Richmond, Virginia

Duration: Summer or fall 2008 (Start/End Dates Negotiable)

About Uganda Rural Fund USA, Inc (URF)

URF is a 501(c)(3) charity that was formed to focus on creating educational and sustainable development opportunities for orphans, impoverished youth, and women in Uganda's rural communities. We support the Nazareth Children's Home for 17 kids, after-school program, women empowerment programs, youth leadership and community engagement, chicken project, piggery project, water and sanitation, and community outreach. The Hope Integrated Academy is an education initiative involving vocational training programs, secondary education, a community library, computer center (with free Internet services), entrepreneurship and leadership center, a science center with laboratories, youth resource center, and a medical clinic. All these services were previously not readily available to the community.
